Why we started ParkCanvas.
We didn't start ParkCanvas because we wanted to build another parking app. We started it because we'd spent years inside the industry and saw the same problem everywhere: parking operations were still being forced to fit around hardware, outdated systems, and rigid rules that didn't reflect how modern cities actually move.
Every car park was different. Different customers, different permits, different access rules, different commercial goals. But underneath, the same problem everywhere: the customer, the permit, the bay, the payment and the vehicle all lived in separate systems that never reconciled. The software powering them felt locked into one way of thinking — expensive, inflexible, and slow to change.
The turning point came after seeing operators constantly forced to work around their software instead of the software working around them. Rates couldn't adapt fast enough. Access rules were clunky. Reporting was fragmented across vendors. And launching something new often meant replacing hardware, signing long contracts, or coordinating several suppliers just to make a small operational change.
We realised parking didn't need another machine, or another point system. It needed a software-first operating system.
ParkCanvas was built to become the platform behind parking operations — one place to manage every customer, permit, bay, booking, payment and vehicle — giving operators the flexibility to design how their car park works and how revenue is managed, without being locked into legacy infrastructure or a tangle of separate tools.
